01 — Introduction

ABOUT ME

My name is Ha Anh. I am a senior at the Hanoi-Amsterdam Highschool for the Gifted. Currently, I have been doing social interviews and curator work in a veteran project. The project is mainly about researching about American War (Vietnam War) veterans, connecting to real veterans, and collecting their letters, diaries, poems, and music works.

REASONS FOR DEVELOPING THIS WEBSITE

After a long time immersing myself in veterans’ world, I started reading and digging more deeply into their personal art works and personal autobiographical. After researching, I decided to have a talk with my grandfather who was a soldier who fought for Vietnam’s freedom. He told me that I should share this meaningful literature and history interest to more people in order to spread the love and encourage their reading and engaging spirit. Furthermore, the reason for the appearance of the opposite party which is the Republic of Vietnam in this website is because I believe that art in general will bring people on two different sides together so as to promote peace and North-South reconciliation.

“Peace is an art as much as war is, and knowing when and how to negotiate peace is the art’s highest form.” - Wick Allison.

06 — Conclusion

The war passed, leaving behind deep sorrow and irreparable loss. For those who departed, they lost an entire future and the boundless sky ahead; for those left behind, it felt as though a part of their very soul was buried alongside their loved ones, their whole world shattered by the conflict. Every single life was impacted by the sheer brutality and ferocity of war. Setting aside questions of right and wrong, this is about humanity – about the fundamental right to live and to exist in peace. Though years may pass, the images of impoverished people enduring hardship and the brave Vietnamese soldiers fighting valiantly will remain deeply etched in the pages of history and in the hearts of generations to come.

This website is created to honor and express our deepest, most sincere gratitude to all those who sacrificed themselves in the war for national independence. May their sacrifice never be forgotten, and may their memory endure forever.
